Porters 5 forces for Flipkart

Threat of New Entrants : Industry seems to have very high potential but is at its nascent stage. Lots of scope of growth in the futureMany small players might enter to explore the marketHigh capital investment is required as it is still in the nascent stage. Would not be much of a deterrent as venture capitalists are interested in investing, as they see a future in it.Flipkart is already an established its brand name and network across the nation. Hence, it may not be affected by the entry of small players in its market domainFlipkart is slowly moving up. Although, other players are learning from Flipkart’s mistakes and trying to do better. Since the industry is emerging profits cannot be achieved. Determinants of Supplier Power :For Suppliers (product manufacturers), e-commerce is another platform to sell their products, without any differentiation Hence, e-commerce companies have little amount of bargaining power, including Filpkart. There is an exception in case of popular p roducts, as company has lot of alternatives. Their switching cost is low, if there is no contact. Not all suppliers may have the ability of willingness to forward integrate, as it is highly risky market.Price discrimination is very much possible. As Flipkart is an inventory- based business model, they buy in bulk from their suppliers.Treating suppliers as partners would be very beneficial for Flipkart and it’s suppliers.Rivalry amongst existing firms : Flipkart is having a hard time as it is competing with it’s competitors in e-commerce as well as retail stores.Flipkart has less competitors of the same size, but many in smaller size.Flipkart has lot of competitors now , but not as huge as them, small in size but large in number.Incentive to fight is low, as the market is big enough for everyone to grow but there is no profit margin.Exit costs are very high, as Flipkart has an Inventory – based business model.

Theoretical Background of Lending System

There Is a meticulous proverb about the bank's lending -â€Å"If you owe the bank take problem. † To be frank, lending to the businesses, governments, and Individuals Is one of the most Important services banks and their closest competitors provide, and It Is the riskier. The principal reason banks and many competitor lenders are issued charter of incorporation by government is to make loans to their customers.Banks, thrift institutions, and other chartered lenders are expected to support their local immunities with an adequate supply of credit for all legitimate business and consumer financial needs and to price that credit reasonably in line with competitively determined market interest rate. Indeed, making loans to fund consumptions and Investment spending Is the principal economic function of banks and their closest competitors. How well a lender performs In fulfilling the lending function has a great deal to do with the economic health of Its region, because loan support the growth of new business and Jobs wealth the lender's trade territory.Despite all the benefits of lending for both the institutions that makes loan and for their customer, the lending process bears careful internal and external monitoring at all the times. When a bank or other lender gets into serious financial trouble, its problems usually spring from loans that have become unconvertible due to mismanagement, illegal manipulation, misguided landing policies or an unexpected economic downturn. No wonder, then, that when examiners appear at a bank or other regulated lending Institution they conduct a thorough review of its loan portfolio.Usually this Involves detailed analysis of the documents and collateral for the largest loan, a review of a sample of small loans, and an evaluation of loan polices to ensure their sound and prudent In order to protect the public funds. 1. 2 Background of National Credit & Commerce Bank Ltd (UNCLE) National Credit and Commerce bank Limited bears a unique history of its own. Beowulf Perseverance Essay

In the poem, Beowulf, perseverance can be perceived as one of the most important factors for the success of the main character. Perseverance can be described in many ways, but the true meaning of the term is commitment. How someone stays committed with a goal or task until glory is reached, all the effort and hard work placed into the action being realized, personal reasons, and the patience had while realizing it, are the main points of perseverance. The motivation to not give up is also a very important factor of perseverance; the reward someone gets when completing a task is part of motivation. The people who are successful in this world like pro athletes, businessmen, politicians, and individuals who accomplish their personal goals, are probably successful because they persevered in whatever task they had. This means they stayed committed and motivated throughout their tasks and never gave up even if the situations were tough. Perseverance is a great factor in the heroic poem, Be owulf. In the poem the main character is named Beowulf, he is characterized for his great fighting skills and abilities. Look more:  beowulf essay He uses perseverance as his main tool for success in the story; he uses it to defeat sea monsters, Grendel, Grendel’s mother, a dragon, and ruling as a good king. Staying committed until glory is reached is very important for success, because if the people do not stay committed during their tasks or goals they will not be successful. Some people stay committed at the beginning of their tasks, but all of the sudden they start to slack off because they probably want to see results immediately, or they feel like they cannot resist any longer because things are not going how they are suppose to be. This term is one of the most important points of perseverance because the main key of the term is to stay committed until glory or success is reached, it could take months or years, it does not matter. What matters is to get the job done and be glorious. In the heroic poem, Beowulf is illustrated as a character that stays committed until glory is reached. When he fought Grendel’s mother he struggled a little bit because when he attacked her with a sword that was supposed to be unstoppable, he did not do any damage. After he saw that his attack was worthless he did not give up or ran away, in fact he looked for ways to defeat her and he finally found a sword made by giants and swung it through her neck. Beowulf clearly demonstrates that he was committed to finish Grendel’s mother because he did not give up and he finally found a solution that led him to glory. Another important factor of perseverance is motivation. How someone stays motivated is very important because motivation is what will lead the to keep going in their tasks and not give up. Beowulf completed all of his battles and tasks because he had a reason behind everything he did, that reason was his personal motivation. A factor that motivated him was to impress the Hrothgar the king. When the king asked him if he could kill Grendel’s mom, he immediately said yes. He wanted let the king see that he could defeat any monster. When he killed her, the king was very impressed because she was a very hard monster to defeat. Lastly, the most important motivation anyone can have is to beat your personal goals, to prove to your own self that you can do what you want to do. Another important motivational factor is the reward awarded after completing a task. When he killed Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon, he received gold, horses, necklaces, and even the Hrothgar considered him a son. These possessions motivated Beowulf to never quit and always finish what he started. Proving to your own self can be another key for success that involves perseverance. When someone tries to prove something to their selves, they try really hard to defeat their personal ego and bad mentality. Beowulf tried to prove himself that he was unstoppable and that he was a great warrior. Every time he fought he wanted to prove to himself how great he was, and that is why he was successful. His personal reasons were also important in getting glory. When he was about to fight the dragon he said, â€Å" I risked my life often when was young. Now I am old. but as king of the people I shall pursue this fight for glory of winning, if the evil one will only abandon his earth-fort and face me in the open† (Beowulf 2511-2515.When the dragon attacked Beowulf’s mead-hall he got mad and sought revenge. Revenge is when someone does something to you and you want to answer back. So the dragon attacked his property now he was going to answer back with an epic battle against him, because he was seeking revenge and wanted to prove to himself that he could be glorious, he fought really hard and killed the dragon. He also died but he proved himself that he could defeat anyone and he got revenge. Beowulf was a great warrior all of his life; he used commitment, motivation, hard work, and proving himself to succeed. All of these terms are the puzzle pieces that form up perseverance. So if one word can describe Beowulf’s success it would be perseverance. In all of the battles he set his goals, personal reasons, and committed through them. If he did not persevered he would have failed every battle. At the end, all his hard work paid off because he was in charge of a kingdom and once again this gave him motivation, greatness, and he proved himself he was on top of everyone. When Beowulf died he was happy because he accomplished everything he wanted in his life. He is going to be remembered for the great warrior that used â€Å"perseverance† as his main tool for success.

International Insurance Law Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5750 words

International Insurance Law - Assignment Example The fundamentals of insurance law make it applicable to various streams of operations. In the English laws, varied applications of insurance law are considered under the Insurance Act 2015. Section 14(1) of this Act defines insurance law in terms that â€Å"Any rule of law permitting a party to a contract of insurance to avoid the contract on the ground that the utmost good faith has not been observed by the other party is abolished†. Considerably, in this context, it is worth mentioning that the insurance law applicable under the mentioned Act has evolved with time and has been changed as deemed appropriate to the current legislative contexts, having an impact on insurance contracts. In its recent changes, the law commission has been concerned with the applicability of the Act, which now ranges to a more diversified platform of insurance and reinsurance contracts. These reforms have been most visible in relation to the ‘test of materiality of non-disclosure and misrepre sentation’, ‘the way of performance of the duty of good faith’, and ‘the remedies assured in compensation to the breach of the duty of good faith’. These changes have further been speculated to impose significant impacts on the industry operations, ranging to various sectors. Besides imposing effects on the common law approaches, the changes and reforms made in Insurance Act 2015 are also asserted to deliver special focus on Marine Insurance Act (MIA 1906) norms with regard to the stated dimensions.

The Use and Impact of Total Quality Management in the UK Business Literature review

The Use and Impact of Total Quality Management in the UK Business Sector - Literature review Example Introduction Over the last few decades in the U.K, quality management models have been used to improve on the performance of the firms. It is thus applied by these firms in realization of excellent results. The literature review here has discussed whether the quality management fosters change and flexibility of firms in trying to realize their set goals or whether on contrary it hinders the firm’s interest in their new developments. Consequently, quality management has evolved considerably hence it is very much vital to try to determine whether these practices have provided effective means in order to respond to the flexibility necessary in the new competitive conditions (Hariharan 2004). Research design A list of techniques was generated from various sources, which included textbook, scholarly works. The initial list included 13 techniques. These are the techniques applied. Balanced score card, cooperate social responsibility, customer surveys, improvement teams, mission and vision statements, employee suggestion scheme, lean, knowledge management, QMS, Six sigma, supplier evaluation, SWOT analysis, and 5S (Hariharan 2004). Questionnaire and Questionnaire administration The questionnaire included the following questions on how quality management has been used in the following principles in the company. 1) Employee involvement 2) Company culture 3) Executive management 4) Company decision-making and continuous improvement. (Fahey 1997). First of all, a covering e-mail and survey was sent to the sample of 10 managers of the registered telecom companies in U.K. 5 days after the mail had been sent, a reminder postal card was also sent to non-responders. A total of 10 requests where made whereby seven of the interview requests were accepted. As a result, the whole interview yielded a total of 17 usable responses, which included seven from the structured interviews hence it yielded response rate of 17.8% and 9 from e-mail responses yielding a response rate of 30%. So, the overall response rate was 24.3%. (Fahey 1997). Non-response bias In trying to assess the non-response bias in the mail survey, the statistical significance different tests now between the earlier responses and the later response is used. So, using this method, first five responders and the last five responders were then compared. The test of the 20 randomly selected survey items then found there was no any statistical significant difference. This brought us to our conclusion that non-response may not be a major problem in our study. (Fahey 1997). Literature review According to Jackson (2002), total quality management is one of the management approaches applied by firms in seeking to establish zero defects when running your business. It comprises of team leadership, worker empowerment, and creative problem solving in order to achieve its set goals. These programs are now available in marketing, production, customer support, and finance. A TQM program includes all aspect s of organizations operations, which include, the structure of the company, the culture the company has developed, and its hiring and promotional practices. TQM evolved from the quality assurance methods that were first developed during the First World War. It was as a result of these was which led to large-scale manufacturing efforts that produced poor quality of goods and services in the world. Principles of total quality man

Dunkle v. State, 2006 Okla. Crim. 29, 139 P.3d 228, 2006 Okla. Crim Assignment

Dunkle v. State, 2006 Okla. Crim. 29, 139 P.3d 228, 2006 Okla. Crim. App. Lexis 29 (2006), - Assignment Example Character evidence was used in the court for the purpose of proving action and computer-generated crime scene re-enactments were used to persuade the jury that the state’s version were consistent with evidence at the scene and the defendant’s was not. Based on this, Dunkle was convicted of first degree murder. Dunkle has now appealed for her sentence and conviction. The issue is whether, by using improper character evidence, the appellant was denied of a fair trial. It is to be seen if character evidence provided is relevant and admissible in the court of law. Another issue is whether the computer-generated re-enactments are actual images of the crime or a set of possibilities. Previously, the Court had convicted Dunkle of first degree murder, but the decision has now been reversed and the case has been remanded for a new trial. It was found that there were reversible errors in admitting of computer-generated reconstructions and, irrelevant and inappropriate character evidence. The previous court had decided that the character evidence showcased and the evidence from computer-generated re-enactments were sufficient to prove that Dunkle had committed the crime and hence was convicted of first degree murder. But this court is of the opinion that evidence is insufficient to justify the decision. The court came to this conclusion as most of the arguments of the State were directed towards establishing that Dunkle had a bad character and a person who would kill someone but there was no attempt made to establish an apparent motive for the crime. The majority of the character evidence presented was irrelevant to the murder charge. And with respect to computer-generated re-enactments, the evidence only proves that defendant’s version is not consistent with the evidence at the scene but in no way proves the claim of the state that the

Significance of Proper Identification of the Market structure for the Essay

Significance of Proper Identification of the Market structure for the Organisaition using the example of The Ritz Carlton company - Essay Example However, consumer electronics industry is experiencing perfect competition and hence it is impossible for companies in this market to fix prices for their products. On the other hand in market with Oligopoly, only few suppliers are there and it is possible for the firms in such markets to control the price and market activities in such market structure. For example, OPEC is enjoying oligopoly in oil market. In monopolistic competition, there could be numerous suppliers; however, only few enjoy monopoly. In smartphone market, APPLE and Samsung are ruling now. Even though companies such as Nokia, LG, Blackberry, and Sony Erickson are there, only APPLE and Samsung have the upper hand. Even though monopolistic market structure is the primary objective of all organizations, it is difficult to maintain supremacy in such markets for a prolonged time. It is almost impossible for Ritz Carlton to think about following a monopoly or oligopoly market structure at present because of the huge capa bilities of competitors. At the same time, it is possible for Ritz Carlton dominate the hotel industry along with prominent competitors such as InterContinental Hotel Group, Marriott International Hilton Hotels and Global Hyatt. Key internal and external factors affecting Ritz Carlton Manpower cost is extremely high in American and European regions compared to that in Asian region. Moreover, global wealth is currently shifting from American and European is not so good for Ritz Carlton. Monopolistic competition helps companies to attain huge profits for a short period and a normal profit in the long run which is evident from the following illustrations. (Monopolistic competition, n. d.). From the above graph it is evident that the arrival of...This paper outlines the importance of proper identification of the type of market where the organization is intending to conduct business. The case of The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, one of the prominent hotel groups, which is planning to expan d into new Asian markets, is under consideration. The increased readiness of overseas countries in recent times in attracting foreign direct investment is helping Ritz Carlton to think positively about market expansion. Since competition is different in different regions, the objective of Ritz Carlton is to identify less heavily competitive service markets across the world. Asia is the rapidly emerging region at present and Ritz Carlton is giving more attention to this region at present. Identification of proper market structure is necessary for Ritz Carlton to excel in emerging markets. Based on the competition in the market, market structure can be divided into four major categories. In markets with perfect competition, the market determines the price whereas in monopoly, instead of market, the company decides the price. In market with oligopoly, only few suppliers are there and it is possible for the firms in such markets to control the price and market activities in such market structure. It is difficult to maintain supremacy in markets with monopolistic competition for a prolonged time. The ability to set different prices to different markets (price discrimination) is one of the major advantages of having a monopolistic market structure. Monopolistic competition helps Ritz Carlton to prove the worth of its products and services to the customers. Moreover, it helps Ritz Carlton to enjoy huge profits for short terms and normal profits in the long run.

Business Strategic report of Peets Coffee and Tea Research Paper

Business Strategic report of Peets Coffee and Tea - Research Paper Example Peet’s coffee competes with smaller coffeehouses such as Tully’s and Caribou Coffee. For it to gain an upper hand, Peet’s coffee should differentiate its products from those of its competitors. It can achieve this by selling itself to the consumers as a memorable experience. Moreover, it should focus its coffee business to a single distribution channel, for instance, the grocery. As a result, this would enhance the company brand awareness in those areas. The current recession in the US economy could severely affect Peet business since sales revenue based on luxurious coffee brand depends entirely on consumer confidence.Peet coffee focuses on the production of high-quality coffee products. Gamification Primer Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Gamification Primer - Essay Example amification is applied in business is to improve the competitiveness of a given business over other competitors and increase the market share, hence profitability. It is a shift from the games modeling the real world to the real world emulating games. Understanding game mechanics is significant as it enables the understanding of the real forces that affect business behavior and trends across the globe (Burke 35). Common players in games include both corporate and individuals that do it for different reasons, although the aim is to gain in different ways. Despite the benefits that are associated with the different games, challenges and risks emerge as well. For instance, an organization could apply a different game that could result in great losses and its exit from the industry if other competitors play similar games at the same time. To this end, gamification utilizes technological innovation and research and development to increase the benefits. Barclays Bank is a multinational banking group that began its operations in the United Kingdom and expanded to other countries across the globe. The organization deals with provision of investment and personal banking among other services. The bank has positioned itself as a dominant financial institution in the industry given its good financial performance. However, maintenance of the dominance is not an easy task for the bank it had to undertake different strategies (Burke 67). Gamification is one of the strategies that Barclays bank undertook. Under this strategy, the bank has the objective of generating value for all the customers it serves in its services and products. Barclays Bank is involved in intense marketing strategies some of which include integrated marketing. This is manifested in several ways such as the promotions and adverts in the broadcast media. Corporate social responsibility activities such as the support of the English Premier league is another example of mar keting strategies. The competencies

Employment Relations in Australia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Employment Relations in Australia - Essay Example In addition to this, the trade unions are deemed not to be of necessity as this would bring conflicts which are a vise and would bring disruptions. From the perspective of the employees, they should be multi skilled, flexible and should focus on improvement of business processes. Their efficiency is required to de full time in every field that they may be required to work in. The unions that are to be recognised are only those which are going to further communication between staff groups and the company but not for fighting of rights and seemingly propaganda. In addition to this, good relations and decision making participation is enabled and this is done to improve performance, enhance innovativeness, promote creativity and this is expected to improve the conditions of employment. The conflicts in an organisation are in this believed to emanate from inadequacy on the communication of management policies and information lack The unitaristic approach in Australia is more fictitious as it assumes that the employees will have a common interest with that of the organisation and the employers and that is to focus on achieving maximum results, following company’s policies and adhering to their goals under all conditions. This opposes the thought propounded by Moore and Gardner on managerial prerogative, the validity of unitary in Australia is in question as the theory is only a lie that lies in the heart of HRM philosophy. The insistence on maintenance of a unitaristic state in organizations has gone far and wide to creating tensions in work places and is even believed that the employees no longer work out of good will, but out of lacking an alternative and have to bear the burden of following that which most of them do not believe in. and although they are involved in the decision making process, their interests do not supersede those of the organization and are therefore subordinate to them. Whenever there has been any tendency of formation of unions, measur es have been taken, first to deal with those involved and then with disintegrating the unions as demonstrated by Plowman, David H. (2005) in Recruitment strategies and union exclusion in two Australian call centers. The result which is a case of inequality has led to controversies far reaching even to the policy makers who have not taken it to be a serious case. Their argument is that for a case where growth and development has occurred, this should not be taken as a problem but an avoidable circumstance. Inequality in itself is not a state of poverty, but it’s a situation where equal efforts are not rewarded the same to different employees. It is seen more to be way of discriminating between parties for one reason or the other, either as a punishment or it may go too far to be a bit personal where even benefits and bonuses are involved. This may take different forms; due to race, gender, age, ethnicity, or as a way to let one learn a lesson in obedience to a certain powerful external force. Discussion There has been means in which this has evolved over time, most of which has been innovative and varied over time. For instance, the workplace relationships and awards have shifted from being centralised to being decentralised and the joint negotiations, agreements and awards to being individualised, the permanent contracts on jobs are no longer applicable as contingent working environments have taken their place. This has diminished the collective bargaining

Accounting Terms and Concepts Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Accounting Terms and Concepts - Essay Example Owner’s equity can therefore be determined by subtracting the value of all liabilities from assets’ value as shown in the following equation (Warren, Reeve and Duchac, 2011a). Communication of economic information to relevant stakeholders is one of the roles of accounting systems that ensure accurate data on an institution’s financial activities. Accounting systems also establishes frameworks for developing and managing organizational culture and interpersonal relations among an organization’s stakeholders. The systems achieve these through outlining values and standards for practice (Macintosh and Quattrone, 2010). Development of complex Information Technology systems has improved accounting work through computerized accounting and analytics for financial analysis. The technology has simplified the accounting process and improved accuracy through its electronic applications. Advanced Information Technology has also improved time efficiencies and ensures updated information for managerial functions (Warren, Reeve and Duchac, 2011b). Integrating accounting systems with systems of other departments in an enterprise is necessary because of its associated advantages to both accounting personnel and other users of financial information from other departments such as line managers and top managements. The involved data interoperability avails information to all internal stakeholders and therefore eliminates complete reliance on financial accountants for information, a factor that facilitates timely decisions in other departments. Integrating accounting systems also relieves accountants of the communication role and promotes their efficiency in consultancy services to other users of financial information. Further, integrated systems facilitate faster transfer of financial updates to all departments for informed decisions and actions (Maher, Stickney and Weil,

Fractional Distillations Essay Example for Free

Fractional Distillations Essay In this experiment we aim to demonstrate that we can separate two volatile compounds from a mixture due to the different chemical properties of each compound. We will accomplish this by a separation procedure known as distillation, which relies on each compound having a distinct and separate boiling point. Our pure products will be analyzed with gas chromatography to determine the success of the distillation. Procedures The experiment was performed as stated in the course textbook: Pavia, D. L., Lampman, G. M., Kriz, G. S., Engel, R. G. Introduction to Organic Laboratory Techniques: A Microscale Approach. 2007, 4th Ed. Pp 51—57. . Data The distillation curves for our simple and fractional distillation (See page 3) clearly demonstrate that fractional distillation separates the two compounds more completely. The boiling point (bp) of our unknown compounds was taken from the flat regions of the fractional distillation curve. Our unknown mixture contained hexane (bp 69  ºC) and toluene (bp 110.6  ºC). Analysis via gas chromatography allowed us to determine the relative percentage of hexane and toluene at fractions near the beginning and end of our distillations. Relative percentages have been recorded in the table below, and our calculations are shown on page 5. Conclusion This week we utilized two methods of distillation (simple and fractional) to separate a mixture of two volatile compounds. We found that while the simple distillation separated the majority of the two compounds near the beginning and the end of the distilling process, fractional distillation produced much more pure fractions. In simple distillation the column was shorter, allowing less room for the two different compounds to fully separate. While heating the round-bottom flask the hexane molecules gain higher kinetic energy faster than the toluene molecules due to their lower molecular weight and lesser intermolecular forces. The longer fractional  distillation column allowed the hexane molecules with higher kinetic energy to separate from the lower-energy toluene molecules. After viewing the gas chromatograph data from the fractional distillation we saw that our unknown compounds had almost completely separated, while the fractions from the simple distillation were less pure. Although distillation is a good separation technique it is still necessary to ensure that proper steps are taken to reduce the chances of error. Failure to add a boiling chip to the round-bottom flask could allow the mixture to heat unevenly. This could allow molecules with a higher boiling point to gain kinetic energy before the molecules with the lower boiling point, which would create impure fractions. Watching the rate of temperature increase is also important. Allowing the temperature to increase too quickly can cause impurity for the same reason. We forgot to add the boiling chip to the round-bottom flask in the simple distillation, which could have contributed to the mixture of toluene and hexane that we saw. We made sure to include the boiling chip in the fractional distillation, however, and did not observe any problems. Even though both hexane and toluene are volatile, they have different chemical properties to allow for separation and analysis. Hexane is a hydrocarbon with no dipole moment or double bonds. This means that it has few intermolecular interactions, and will have a lower boiling point. It also has a lower molecular weight than toluene, so it will appear first on the gas chromatograph. Toluene has a benzene ring with a methyl group attached. Toluene has greater intermolecular forces than hexane because the benzene ring withdraws electrons from the methyl group. This creates a slight polarity to the molecule that increases intermolecular forces and increases the boiling point. Since toluene has a greater molecular weight than hexane it will appear second on the gas chromatograph. This experiment illustrates how useful the different properties of compounds can be while trying to purify mixtures of compounds.

Migration Plan from UNIX to Microsoft Server

Migration Plan from UNIX to Microsoft Server Data Migration is the process of transferring data between different storage types, servers or formats. It’s not just about copying data, but also about validating the data according to constraints and since different databases uses different data types, this step also include modifying the data as per the target server. One essential requirement is that the data migrated should verify the Business logic to run applications smoothly on target server. Migrating from one server to another can be a tricky situation. There are various challenges while migration of full data from UNIX server to Microsoft Server. First of all the user should completely understand the data sources and their proper formats. Usually, too many spreadsheets or excel files, or redundant data may affect proper migration. Wherever possible, instead of manual, automated systems should be used. Microsoft offers MAP (Microsoft Assessment and Planning) tool to identify the various constraints, or issues that might occur while migrating from UNIX platform to Microsoft server. Moreover, SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant) can further help in performing the migration. SSMA can create mapped schemas to UNIX server, which helps in easy migration of data. It is essential that the all applications like email, finance systems, personal records, CAD/CAM engineering facilities, production systems, Sales Marketing databases, Website etc. should run smoothly after migration. There are various underlying steps that need to be taken care of for easy and error-free migration, as explained below: Recognizing the pattern-Template Creation: To begin migration, first we’ll have to understand the schema of UNIX database. We’ll create a template consisting of master data key objects. The template has following two sections: Section 1: Key Data Fields: In the first section of the template user will provide the key values, such as storage objects material, address etc. Usually, in key field columns, drop-down lists are provided for accurate and easy entry of data. Section 2: Derived and Default Fields:Based on the key field values, various fields can be derived based on the Business translational logic. For example, using the production unit key field the template will determine the employee names working in it. For different production units, different employee names will be automatically derived by the template. The default fields like, â€Å"currency used† will be automatically updated. Process of Migration: The process of migration is summarized on the figure below: Figure-1 (Source: Ranga Rao Davala, Nikhil Singh, 2011, A Case Study on Data Migration Strategy, The Data Administration Newsletter, Robert Seiner Publishers.) Select Source:Due to various applications running on UNIX server, the data will be spread across many sources like different DBs, excel files or spreadsheets. In this step, user will identify the various data sources that are to be migrated. The selection of sources will be based upon the requirements in the project, according to which what data needs to be migrated can be identified. Data Fields Mapping:This is an essential step, where the schema or key fields from source system are mapped to target system. The field names in target schemas should be kept similar to source schema for easy mapping. This step is usually done manually for error-free mapping. Usually the different database servers will have different underlying data types. For example, Integer’s maximum and minimum limit in UNIX server is different from in SQL Server. The mapped data, therefore, should be transformed according to destination server data types. Data Transformation:This is where the template we created will come in picture. User will manually enter the key field values in the template and based on that all the derived and default field values will be generated automatically. Moreover, in this step, the user will transform the data based on the difference between data types of both servers. Validations and Constraints:This step is to ensure that the data entered in the template is accurate. The template will gray out the field which are entered wrong or doesn’t qualify the constraints, such as mandatory fields, null values etc. This step will help in minimizing errors and improving the quality of data. Extract Files:Once the data is entered into the template, the master data objects are extracted or generated. Load files:The load files are in text format, and they can be generated in single click by macro-enabled extract files system. This step ensures that data present in the text file is in exactly the same format as we require in the Microsoft system. Loading data in Microsoft Server:The data is loaded in batches. Since there are multiple applications running on UNIX system that are to be migrated, this step may take several hours to complete. Web server migration (FTP or HTTP Websites) Once we have completed the initial steps of creating a template and selecting the proper migration tools, we can begin full migration from UNIX to Microsoft server i.e. IIS. We must follow following steps: Assessment of hardware requirements and acquiring new hardware if required. We can begin migrating FTP or HTTP websites by copying their content to destination server. Next step is to replicate Web application files to destination. Migration of log files. Migration of Web server configuration settings. The last step is to create security settings and user permission and roles. DHCP/DNS Migration: The process of migrating UNIX server DHCP/DNS services to Microsoft Windows Server DHCP/DNS servers requires the following steps: Install Microsoft Windows Server DHCP/DNS Services Manually Configure Microsoft Windows Server DHCP/DNS Services Create Forward and Reverse Lookup Zones: Creating lookup zones will make sure that Microsoft server is authoritative for the DHCP/DNS names for local resources and forwards other queries to an ISP or performs recursive resolutions. Add secondary zones to Microsoft Windows Server DHCP/DNS for the existing zones that are hosted on UNIX based DHCP/DNS servers. In this step we’ll initiate zone transfers at the Microsoft Windows Server-based DHCP/DNS servers to transfer the zones from the UNIX servers. After the transfers are successful we will convert secondary zones into primary zones. In the last step, we’ll point client configurations to Microsoft Windows based DHCP/DNS Servers. Avoiding downtime while migrating: We can avoid the downtime while migration by reconfiguring our sites to connect to our new database remotely. Using this way, our users or visitors will be redirected to new site and all the updates will be saved to new server. This technique is, though, very complex, but it will minimize the downtime to a great extent. We can summarise this process in following steps: Transfer the files, DBs and important settings to the new server. Then we can test our site on the new server to check if it’s working as expected. After two steps are successfully completed, we will change the various database settings on our site, to make sure that the old server accesses the DB from the new server. Then we’ll modify the name servers and DNS and point them to the new server.

Why is the Novel Called To Kill a Mockingbird? Essay -- To Kill a Mocki

Why is the Novel called To Kill a Mockingbird. In order for us to understand the reason why the novel is called "To Kill a Mockingbird", we need to take into account what the title actually means. The mockingbird is a type of finch, and it gets its name from its ability to make sounds that mimic other animals. This bird is not a predator and all it does is to make music. In the book the references made to the mockingbird are ones of great significance. The first time we come across this in the novel is when Atticus Finch says to his son Jem Finch, "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." The children, Jem and his sister Scout do not, at first, understand the importance of this advice. They decide to ask their neighbour, and also good friend, Miss. Maudie about it. She starts off with "Your father's right," and this is not the only time in the novel when she is in agreement with Atticus' views. She is almost a mother figure to the children along with Calpurnia, who is their cook, and she reinforces Atticus' philosophy. In this instance what she tells the children about mockingbirds, reinforces Atticus' views. She says: "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." At this point the writer is conveying to us that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, the reason being that it does not do anything but make music. Mockingbirds are portrayed as the epitome of innocence. The killing of an innocent is always seen as a horrendous crime in any age and any time. As we re... ...ole point that the novel is trying convey is about tolerance and understanding. It is due to a lack of these things that we get prejudice and discrimination of any kind occurs, whether it is racial or because of gender. If people were tolerant of other people then these problems would not even arise. Atticus is right when he tells scout that to truly understand a person you need to walk in their shoes. By doing this you will understand the person and so will be able to tolerate the person without fearing them because they are different to yourself. Atticus is not the only person in this novel who is able to think ahead. We know that people like Miss Maudie and Heck Tate, the sheriff, are also able to think beyond racial lines. We have come a long way from then, in establishing equality, and yet we still have a long way to go in achieving the perfect world.

Desensitized America :: essays research papers

In Candide by Voltaire, there is an instance in the life of the old woman that outrages her. When she meets up with the Mores and they act abusive and intrusive toward her, she is initially outraged. When she stops to think about it, she exclaims that if she had been a person more knowledgeable about their customs, she would be less upset. This suggests that people everyday overlook acts that would be considered by an outsider to be appalling. In our society I can think of many instances that we accept, and in many ways we become desensitized to their horror because they are so common. A big example of this is the rampage of violence especially in our school systems. I can remember my freshman year that there was a bombing in a primary school in Scotland. I cannot even remember all of the details, but it was a truly tragic event. The fact that I cannot remember too much more of this story is an example about how we have become desensitized toward violence in schools. I think that every other day we hear instances of this type of horror. Obviously the one that stands out in my mind is the Columbine tragedy, but in between the huge stories, are the instances that are just as tragic but get less press. So many times we hear of children bringing guns to school, teens that play around with guns that don’t belong to them, and someone gets hurt or even dies. In the summer before I was in eighth grade a boy in the class ahead of me was killed by a gun when he and his cousin were having target practice. I cannot even remember the details of that tragedy, and that happened in my own town. I am sure that many of you have your own memories of instances in your hometowns, but sometimes they seem less important when compared to the â€Å"bigger† tragedies. If an outsider looked into our society, and took note of this, I would hope they would be appalled at the amount of violence and tragic deaths that occur everyday in our society, and our desensitivity to it. If they are not appalled, then perhaps all of humanity has taken a step down and not just our society. If you think that this desensitizing has skipped you, and that you are just as affected every time you read or hear about the death of a child due to guns, bomb scares in schools, even bombings in schools, then try to think of the tragedy in Scotland a few years ago.

Shopaholism Essay example -- Shopping Shop Buying Essays

Shopaholism I have fifty minutes before my exam will be over. Ten minutes have already passed and the only thing I've written so far is my name. I continue to stare at the black type and attempt to make sense of it all. Five minutes remaining and I quickly jot down my final thoughts. My time is up. Usually I would be excited to find out my exam score, but this time there was no use in knowing. I knew I failed. I decided not to attend the rest of my classes for the day and instead do what I usually do when I need to forget about my troubles and just escape into my own world where everything is perfect; go shopping. After my little excursion to the mall, I came back elated, with a bunch of shopping bags in my hands and a huge bill in my pocket. I find myself escaping reality through shopping quite often, but fortunately I do know my limits; however, there are many people who have formed an addiction to shopping. They're almost like alcoholics. Reasons for excessive shopping vary from wanting to keep up with friends or fashion to simply cheering oneself up. But dysfunctional shopping behavior can easily get out of control. Like alcoholism, notes Chicago psychoanalyst Robert Galatzer-Levy, compulsive shopping represents a case of "the ordinary pleasures of living getting out of hand." Just as nearly every alcoholic starts out as a social drinker, a shopping addict starts out as a recreational shopper -- bringing a little color into a gray day by picking up a pair (or three) of shoes. About 90 years ago, German psychologist, Emil Kraepelin defined excessive shopping as an illness, calling it "oniomania" after the Latin onos, or price, but only recently has this disorder begun to be understood. According to Observer Magazin... ...ed because at times I do go shopping to relieve stress and I do come back with lots of bags in my hands, but I don't own a credit card so I know my limits since I'm using cash. Now I wonder what will happen when I do get a credit card, but hopefully I'll be alright since I'm reducing my expenditure on unnecessary items already. I think if we recognize a problem in our spending habits at an early stage, then we can prevent falling victim to shopaholism, but if we continue to deny the problem and go on buying more and more for no apparent reason then the situation may get out of hand and treatment would be needed. Like binge eating or pathological gambling, shopaholism distorts our sense of self and if anyone feels as though he or she might be falling victim to this disorder then it is highly recommended that something is done immediately, before it becomes too late.

High School vs. College Essay

I think a good education is an important part of one’s life. To achieve a good education, one should attend both High School and College. The transition from High School to College is a step that a student will either adjust to or struggle with. Although, some people think High School has a lot in common with college, I find they have a few differences. There are also certain similarities as well, by which, one won’t feel as if College is a new world. The more prepared a person is to face the differences and similarities, the more successful they might be. High School and College are both educational grounds for a student to grow with knowledge. A student graduates from High School and again from College with a degree. Both places are full of experiences and filled with numerous memories. The government runs them. They both play an important role in making a person into a collected individual and a member of a society. High School students know that there are differences between High School and College, but sometimes what they think is not how it is. To begin with there are many ways in which the attitudes of the teachers in High School differ from the attitudes of the teachers in College. In High School, my teachers seemed to be stricter and have more rules for the students to follow. There was an everyday time schedule for each student to go by. Students go through drama in High School which some cannot get out of. Attendance is very important in High School as well as in College. Many teachers enforce it while others do not. I have noticed that it is the student’s responsibility to come to class. They believe that the students should be mature enough to make their own decision on whether to attend class or not and leave it to them to make that decision. When a student graduates from High School, a sense of maturity comes in them. They start realizing that everything in High School was materialistic, and College is practical. College is different than High School just by the personal freedoms, the classroom and the social life. In College, no one would be concerned about the basic everyday drama that would surround a student in High School. College prepares a student to face the real world, and how to handle it. It separates the mature people from the immature people. However, a person who wants to attend College has to pay to further her education. If a student doesn’t take College seriously and apply herself, she knows she wasted her hard earned money, or her parents. So, since students must pay to get into College, she works and studies harder than she did in High School. Therefore, she will study those required courses and finish her education with a degree and start a career. I don’t think I would ever want to go back to High School. I love College and all the freedom that comes with it. All there is in College is education. Now I am learning to be a better person and to improve and to learn different study habits. High School is only the first step into growing up and preparing you for College, whereas, College is preparing you for your career.
